Arts Midwest – to support the World Fest activities surrounding Anda Union’s residency in Thief River Falls in March 2017. Anda Union will spend a week conducting school and community workshops, school concerts, and a public performance. Building upon the success of past tours – featuring Shanren, Beauty and Melody, and Tarim – Arts Midwest is thrilled to present this ensemble from China to a new Minnesota community that otherwise might not have access to such high-calibre performing arts experiences. During Anda Union’s past tours, participants spoke to the unique and personal connections the ensemble members made in Arts Midwest’s partner communities: ‘Anda Union did a great job having students participate in the workshops. Many of the workshops included a question and answer sessions that both students and the group enjoyed, The interpreter did a fabulous job keeping everything moving and of course the students enjoyed the interaction.’ Hutchinson, MN.

 

Mu Performing Arts – to bring playwright David Henry Hwang to Saint Paul during the run of the show, Flower Drum Song, that Hwang had rewritten and updated, to participate in a workshop, talkback and reception to better educate the community on the issues that Hwang addresses in his adaptation. Artistic Director Randy Reyes, actors from the production, and other local experts will join us as well.

 

Minhua Chorus – to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its establishment, Minhua Chorus will hold a high level concert titled “Forgotten Treasures – The Modern Era Chinese Songs”, on Octover 22, 2016 at Benson Great Hall of Bethel University. The concert will feature Chinese pop songs and art songs from the Modern Era (1920s-1940s) that were banned due to political censorship between 1949 and 1978, and never again re-introduced systematically. Minhua Chorus has invited high quality singers: Mr. Tong Tao, Ms. Vanessa Liao, Ms. Amy Yongquist to perform at the concert. The concert will be featuring songs, music and dances created during the modern era (1920s – 1940s).

 

Minnesota Chinese Dance Theatre – to support the program for production of the MCDT Annual Concert of Rainbow Series 2016. The training program runs from March to December, 2016 at University of St Thomas. At the end of the training the students will perform at the MCDT Annual Concert of Rainbow Series 2016 and at community centers for the seniors and low income families in the Twin Cities.
